The Rev'd Rowena Bass - alto
Rowena trained as a musician at the Royal College of Music, with harp as first study, and pursued a busy career before ordination in 2005. She is now Priest in Charge of the High Framland group of parishes, in the north eastern corner of Leicester Diocese. This is a half-time post, which leaves her time to continue music-making. She has also worked as chaplain in prison, mental health units and hospitals.
She has 3 adult children, whose varied personalities and careers (social worker, jockey, musician) provide a wealth of interest and joy.
Singing has not figured large in her life (although she did run a plainsong group at a village church about 20 years ago!) until now, and she is delighted to be a member of 8ctave with its musical, spiritual and pastoral nurture.
She is currently in love with Elgar, largely due to his expansive harp writing in orchestral/choral works. But this may change as the glory of Bruckner, Lauridsen et al, unfolds in the 8ctave programme.
